Sarcomas are uncommon cancers that begin in bone or soft tissue, and they're best treated at high-volume sarcoma centers with specialized expertise. Our role is to recognize a sarcoma early, get you a prompt evaluation and second opinion, and coordinate your care with the right specialized center — while staying involved close to home throughout.
How we approach it
If you have a suspicious lump or mass, we can arrange imaging and the right biopsy quickly, so nothing is delayed while answers come together.
We refer to and coordinate with high-volume sarcoma programs, sharing imaging and pathology so your care transitions smoothly.
Parts of your treatment and ongoing follow-up can often happen near home, in step with your sarcoma team.
What the workup looks like
A new, deep, or growing soft-tissue lump deserves prompt imaging rather than watchful waiting — getting the right scan first protects your options.
Sarcoma diagnosis often depends on specialized pathology, so we make sure the biopsy is done and interpreted in a way that doesn't compromise later treatment.
We coordinate referral to an experienced sarcoma program and stay involved, so you keep a familiar team close to home throughout.
Radiation therapy for sarcoma
Radiation therapy is one of the tools we may use in treating sarcoma — often before or after surgery to help control the tumor locally. When it’s part of your plan, it’s delivered with the advanced TrueBeam® system and planned by our board-certified radiation oncologist, Dr. Dan Ishihara, working hand-in-hand with your medical oncologist so radiation, drug therapy, and surgery come together as one plan rather than three.
